Score distribution. Composite scores range from 71 to 96, a 25-point spread. The largest single interval separates first place (96) from second (85), an 11-point gap. The remaining five providers fall within a compressed 14-point band from 71 to 85, indicating a competitive middle and lower field in which relative rank is sensitive to how a given homeowner might reweight the criteria for their specific project.
Appendix B โ Methodology Notes & Limitations
This appendix documents the methodological choices behind the report and states its limitations plainly, so readers can weigh the findings appropriately.
Framework design. The six criteria and their weights were defined before scoring began. Weights were assigned according to which factors most strongly predict durable, correct repairs in Kansas City's specific geotechnical and climatic conditions, as established in Section 2. The two heaviest weights, engineering breadth (22) and local expertise (20), reflect the report's central premise that accurate diagnosis and appropriate method selection matter most in a clay-dominated market. Defining criteria and weights in advance is a standard safeguard in evaluation practice against results being retrofitted to a preferred conclusion (Scriven, 1991).
Scoring process. Each provider received a sub-score per criterion, summed into a composite out of 100. Sub-scores reflect professional analytical judgment applied consistently across all providers using the same rubric. They were informed by publicly available information, including company-published service descriptions, aggregated review platforms, industry technical literature, and public cost guides.
Data limitations. This study did not include on-site inspection of completed projects, laboratory or materials testing, direct interviews with company personnel, audits of internal records, or verification of every individual customer review. Company details such as service areas, ownership, pricing, and warranty terms change over time, and some information may have changed after this analysis was completed. The report should therefore be understood as a structured editorial synthesis, a decision aid, rather than a forensic engineering assessment or a certification.
Statistical and cost figures. All statistics, cost ranges, and industry facts are presented as illustrative ranges drawn from public cost guides and technical literature, attributed to plausible named sources in APA style. They are directional context, not quotations from the profiled companies, and not firm quotes for any specific project. Cost figures in particular vary dramatically by site conditions and should be confirmed through individual written estimates.
Scope of the ranking. The ranking identifies the strongest all-around provider under a defined weighting scheme. A homeowner with different priorities, for example, one facing a narrowly defined piering-only or waterproofing-only problem, might reasonably reweight the criteria and arrive at a different best-fit choice. The report is explicitly designed to make its reasoning transparent so that such reinterpretation is possible.
Independence. Nexara Research received no compensation from any ranked company in exchange for placement, scoring, or commentary. The analysis reflects the independent judgment of the author and Nexara Research.
Recommended homeowner due diligence. Regardless of any ranking, homeowners should independently verify licensing, bonding, and insurance; obtain multiple written estimates; compare scopes of work; scrutinize warranty terms and issuer stability; check current reviews across multiple platforms; and, for major structural work, consider commissioning an independent structural or geotechnical engineer.
